Welcome to the South Carolina CAMO COALITION!You may recall that you joined the South Carolina Camo Coalition within the past several months. Membership is free; you are a member and now ready to protect your rights as a hunter and an angler.
The Coalition is a home grown group of South Carolinians composed of twenty-two sportsmen’s organizations and thousands of individuals, all with two things in common: a love for the out-of doors as well as a strong desire to protect what we have and make it better. The charter member organizations are listed at the bottom, and more are expected to join soon.
The mission of the Camo Coalition is to provide up-to-the-minute information on issues under consideration by the SC State Legislature that affect hunting, fishing, lakes, rivers, streams, and wildlife habitat.
Through this membership, you will be given the opportunity to respond and comment via email to your leaders in the legislature. When we send you Action Alert emails, the names and email addresses of your Representative and Senator will be provided for you, along with a sample email outlining a current issue. Personal response can make a big difference with a lawmaker.
We will only send alert emails a few times each year when the need for action is greatest. Our only request is that you follow the easy steps to inform your legislator of your opinion. There is strength in numbers and your voice will count. In order for us to be most effective, please forward this email to your friends and encourage them to join. The information to join can be found at www.sccamo.org.
Together we can and will make a difference in protecting our outdoor heritage.
South Carolina Camo Coalition Legislative Priorities for 2009: The SC Camo Coalition will monitor important natural resource and fish and wildlife legislation and will “weigh-in” when warranted to protect resources and our outdoor heritage. We also will advocate for an increased appreciation for the vital role farming, forestry, tourism, and outdoor pursuits play in the economy of the Palmetto State. 1. Protection of Rivers and Streams – Permit water withdrawals of more than 3 million gallons of water per month. Must protect the physical, chemical, and biological integrity of rivers and streams. S.275
2. Protect dwindling wildlife habitats and hunting opportunities. Support funding of the SC Conservation Bank.
3. Support funding for the SC Department of Natural Resources, SC Department of Parks Recreation and Tourism, and the SC Commission of Forestry. Budgets of these agencies have been reduced by a greater percentage than other state agencies and their ability to manage our state’s natural resources is greatly diminished. The Camo Coalition strongly supports funding for necessary Natural Resource Management.
4. If a Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish bill is introduced, the Camo Coalition will support it only if it includes provisions providing the State the opportunity to amend legislation to manage species and methods of take-as- needed for sound wildlife management.
5. Prescribed Fire. The Camo Coalition supports the use of prescribed fire and supports legislation to protect and enhance this important management tool.
6. Protect Freshwater Turtles – Limit export of freshwater turtles. H.3121 Charter Member Organizations:
