The electro-shock sampling that took place in July of 2007 on the upper Chattooga was carried out by professionals from the U.S. Forest Service, S.C. DNR, G.A. WRD, and volunteers from Trout Unlimited chapters in South Carolina & Georgia, with the goal of assessing the abundance of holdover trout and other species in the Delayed Harvest (DH) section of river. The diversity of other species included chubs, darters, redeye bass, bullheads, and various species of suckers and minnows. All fish captured were sorted by species and counted. The trout were individually measured and weighed. This cooperative fisheries coalition was chaired by Monte Seehorn, retired Southeastern Fisheries Biologist for the U.S. Forest Service. The coalition has continued to be a cooperative effort over the years to continue to study and improve the Chattooga, bringing together both private and governmental agencies and groups like TU. | |
